2016 Venezuela
It was an honor and a pleasure to be an English language specialist for the U.S. Department of State for three weeks in Venezuela. Venezuelan teachers are working hard to keep their spirits up in the midst of intense life challenges that they are facing due to the harsh realities in their country. I was inspired time and time again by their resilience and joy. I worked directly with about 400 teachers in Trujillo, Barquisimeto and Valencia and then had the honor of presenting at TESOL's International Symposium which had 180 attendees and VenTESOL's national conference that had over 800 attendees!
The main theme of my tour was Cultivating Creativity, Critical Thinking and Community. We worked with these themes in different ways depending upon the people attending the workshops. With students we did activities, with teachers and professors we did activities and talked theory.
